There is nothing more important than laying a strong foundation
I have yet to meet a rider who does not want to do their very best for their horse, but many worry that they are training their horses badly and are concerned that they might harm them.
Most riders are not doing much wrong. Often their only mistake is moving on before they have achieved a solid foundation of training.
What happens if you do this?
If you build a house, skip the foundation and go straight to the walls and roof it won’t be long before the cracks start to appear.
The cracks in training can show themselves in various forms - resistance, tension, spooking, napping, stopping etc.
When the cracks grow too big the house will fall down. You will have to rebuild it starting with a solid foundation. It is exactly the same with horses, when things start falling apart we have to go back to the beginning. The good news is there is a plan you can follow.
A plan that will help you develop trust between you both which in turn gives you and your horse an undeniable confidence. A plan which you will use to start a young horse or retrain one.
Overall it develops the reactions of any horse. It is a plan that you use as a daily confidence warm up and can revisit as issues arise.

I did learn a large amount about training horses whilst competing at the top level but it has been during the subsequent decades of teaching where I have learned the most.
It is during this time that my fundamentals developed and graduated into The “Greenprint” for confident jumping.

For the last 45 years I have travelled the world giving XC clinics helping horses and riders from Grassroots to Elite develop their partnerships.
